In love with a vision

For already quite some time, I have been in all kinds of IT startup juries and dragon dens for colleges, universities, but also for the Computable. I do this because it inspires me. Especially if a young company has an inspired vision.

For instance:
"... to empower the visually impaired."
“ - and only you - decide who gets which information about you on the Internet! Help us to change the Internet. To give the power back to the user. "

How cool are these visions?
You need to be able to fall in love with a good company vision. It seems to me that if you are in love with the vision, you will never forget it. And that it matters to you to really achieve this. Incredibly important for a startup. You have to be on the same page to go from startup to scale-up.

In many cases however, large companies that are far beyond the scale-up stage go incredibly wrong with their vision statement. If you ask their employees what exactly their company's vision is, often they just can't recall it. If people are actually the most important resources in your company, which is often claimed, isn't it not important that all those people are on the same page? Especially for large companies beyond the scale-up stage?

Extend the analogy to a date
Hello, my name is vision, and I want you to fall in love with me. I assure you that we have a bright future together. Hereby the powerpoint with loads of bullets stating why I am right. The numerical arguments can be found in the appendix. I think I have proved sufficiently that it is only logical the we have a relationship with each other. Realize this vision with me, then you will be well rewarded for your efforts.

And what is that vision then?
We will provide branded products and services or superior quality and value that improve the lives of the world's consumers, now and for generations to come. As a result, consumers will reward us with leadership sales, profit and value creation, allowing our people, our shareholders and the communities in which we live and work to prosper.

Yes, really?! I didn't make it up. This is the mission of an existing company.
No ... I settle for those inspired visions that I fall in love with. Another dragon’s pine soon. I am already looking forward to it again!
